My name is Rick Tuthill. I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington and I graduated from the Burnley School of Art (Now the Art Institute of Seattle) in Seattle, Washington in 1981. Since 1981, I've worked as a graphic designer in the screen print industry designing graphic illustrations for screen printing on t-shirts and other garments. It wasn't until about 6 or 7 years ago, when I was in my mid forties that I began painting in my spare time. I dusted off my old watercolor paints and started painting because I had nothing better to do at the time and realized how much I liked it. I'd painted sporadically here and there over the years, but I wasn't really serious about it back then. So basically, I'm a self taught painter. I took a watercolor painting class a couple of years ago and I enjoyed it and I learned a few things. I also have quite a large collection of how-to painting books spilling over the bookshelves in my home (I'm lucky that I have a very patient and supportive wife who never bats an eye when I say "Hey sweetie, I'm going to the art store to buy just a few more things". Anyway, now I'm hooked. I love painting in watercolors, it's probably my favorite medium and a close second is acrylics. I also am beginning to really like what colored pencils have to offer too. I've dipped my toes in the water a little bit the last couple of years as far as showing my work goes. In about 2004 or so, I showed some of my work in a group show at a retirement home in Everett. I've also entered artwork in the fine art competition at the Puyallup Fair, three times now and have managed to sell at least one piece every time. in 2008, a miniature watercolor painting I did received an honorable mention, not much, but it was encouraging. So now I'm painting like mad every chance I get and I am thoroughly enjoying it. Here is my website and I hope you like my art.
